Short Play Commissions
The short play reading commissioning have become an annual event at the Abbey Theatre.
Each year our Literary Department invite emerging playwrights to create a twenty minute play for two actors inspired by a given theme.
A rehearsed reading of these plays takes place at the Abbey Theatre on the Peacock stage over two nights, in what has become a hotly anticipated event in the Abbey calendar.
Since their inception in 2008, the short play commissions have introduced nineteen new short plays by emerging Irish voices to our audiences.They include:
