A rapturous and rebellious confrontation where tradition and contemporary collide

Following critically acclaimed and sold-out performances throughout Europe, Portuguese choreographer Marco da Silva Ferreira comes to Ireland for the first time to present his hugely successful new production CARCAÇA. In this dynamic, joyful choreography, ten performers take street dance, hip hop battles, and club culture as their base to dismantle and then reclaim traditional European folk dances that have been frozen in time. As tradition and contemporary collide, they create a rebellious, colourful and vibrant exploration of identity.

Da Silva Ferreira blends diverse dance styles to explore communal identity, memory and our relationship with the past to ask: what do we want to preserve; what do we want to transform; and what do we want to forget?

Starting with simple jumps that later give way to energetic, rebellious and carnivalesque movement, the choreography accelerates, urging us towards resilience, togetherness and true equality.
