As we mark the shortest day of 2023 and reflect on the year that’s been, the Abbey Theatre is proud to share a short video which explores the remarkable Lesya Ukrainka National Academic Drama Theatre production of Brian Friel’s Translations / Переклади which came to Dublin in June.

These powerful performances of an Irish masterpiece in Ukrainian were ‘a reminder of the emotional and dramatic rigour of Friel’s play’ (The Irish Times) and brought people together from all of the communities who call Ireland home. As we look forward to brighter days ahead, we say a huge thank you to the Lesya Ukrainka National Academic Drama Theatre and send our wishes for a peaceful 2024 across the world.
