Ulster American by David Ireland is a contemporary black comedy that features an Oscar-winning Hollywood actor, an English West-End theatre director and an up-and-coming female playwright who meet up on the eve of rehearsals of her new career-transforming ‘Irish’ play, due to premiere in London’s West-End.
However, when it turns out that they are not on the same page, the night threatens to spiral out of control.
Exploring abuses of power, the confusion of cultural identity and the silencing of the female voice, Ulster American is confrontational and brutally funny – not for the faint of heart.
The Balally Players are the winners of the Abbey Theatre Award at the RTÉ All Ireland Drama Festival 2025, and will perform Ulster American for four performances only on the Peacock Stage.
