Theatre Skills for Business workshops are led, designed and facilitated by Andrea Ainsworth and Phil Kingston.

Andrea Ainsworth, Abbey Theatre Voice Director

Andrea is one of the foremost voice specialists in Ireland. She has been the Voice Director of the Abbey Theatre since 1995, working closely with both Irish and International directors on all Abbey and Peacock theatre productions including premiers of plays by Seamus Heaney, Tom Murphy, Frank McGuiness, Marina Carr, Conor McPherson and Thomas Kilroy.

She taught voice, text, accent and scene study in drama schools in London and at the School of Drama, Trinity College Dublin from 1995 until 2008. She has worked with most of the independent theatre companies in Ireland and also coaches presenters, lecturers and business clients. At the Abbey Theatre she offers classes and bespoke voice workshops for a variety of groups including actors, teachers, writers, lecturers, members of the public, local drama groups and large corporate organisations. She has designed and delivered ‘Shakespeare for Teachers’ workshops both locally and nationally.

Phil Kingston, Abbey Theatre Community and Education Manager

Phil studied acting at Central School of Speech and Drama, which he partially funded by selling some of the first mobile phones in England. He went on to work on stage, screen and radio as well as writing for theatre and TV. He worked as a dramaturg for the Finborough Theatre and a literary consultant for Out of Joint.

He spent ten years running Pathways, a storytelling and TIE company in primary schools in Manchester, as well as training teachers in the use of drama in the classroom. He also trained door to door fundraisers for a charity working in India. In Ireland he has worked as an actor with Loose Canon, HATCH and Bedrock Theatre companies as well as the Abbey Theatre. He also wrote and performed two one man shows for the Dublin Fringe Festival, short plays for Painted Filly theatre company, and TV scripts for Fair City. In November 2011 he was appointed Community and Education Manager. Since then he has helped design and deliver over 50 applied drama and education projects.
