The Abbey Theatre is thrilled to announce a series of general auditions for professional actors to be held in Dublin, Belfast, Galway and Cork from 10th – 24th August 2026. This is a unique opportunity to be seen by the Abbey Theatre casting department. For more information and to apply, see here https://form.jotform.com/250685421595059.

As the National Theatre of Ireland, the Abbey Theatre is committed to championing new and emerging talent in theatre-making across Ireland and beyond. Commenting, Co-Director of the Abbey Theatre, Artistic Director Caitríona McLaughlin said: “I am never happier than when I am sharing a rehearsal room with actors. There are so many brilliant storytellers in Ireland who have the innate ability it takes to become a great actor. It takes a lot of commitment, hard work and personal investment and we look forward to meeting new faces and to seeing what they may bring to the National Theatre.”

Discussing the project, Abbey Theatre Casting Director Barry Coyle said: “We’re excited to be bringing the general audition process to actors across the country, and to have the opportunity to meet people we may not yet have had the chance to see. For me, the most important thing about casting is connection – getting to know more actors, their work, and the projects they’ve been part of – and continuing to build a fuller picture of the immense acting talent that exists right across the island of Ireland.

“These auditions are intended for actors and theatre-makers with some professional experience, who may not have had the opportunity to audition for the Abbey before, or recently. We’re particularly interested in meeting artists with a range of voices, perspectives and lived experiences – people whose work we can begin to know better, and who may help shape the future of Irish theatre.”
