We offer a range of services for deaf, visually impaired and disabled visitors.
Captioned performances for deaf or partially hearing visitors
This involves two screens placed near the stage displaying text. Visitors used to using TV text subtitling will find a captioned performance easy to follow.
For all performances we have an infra-red loop system for visitors using hearing aids. Box Office staff will advise on best areas of the auditorium for reception. Headsets are free and are available from the Box Office, but please reserve at time of booking.
Blind and visually impaired visitors
Audio-description relays a live commentary of the visual elements via the infra-red loop system to individual headsets. A detailed set of programme notes is also available in advance.
General Access
Wheelchair spaces
There are two spaces available for wheelchair users, located at either end of Row H in the Abbey auditorium; these positions are accessible directly from the foyer with no intervening steps. Box Office and Front of House staff are always ready to assist should you require any help.
Working with Arts and Disability Ireland and with funding from the Arts Council, the Abbey offers the widest possible range of enhanced performances for disabled visitors. There are wheelchair accessible toilets on the ground floor of the Abbey foyer.
Unfortunately, the Peacock Theatre is not accessible to patrons who require wheelchair and disability access. The Abbey deeply regrets this and is reviewing the situation to provide equal access to all citizens.
