Yeats on Stage: Down Off His Stilts

This June 10, the Abbey Theatre is delighted to perform a special event in the Morgan Library and Museum in New York, in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of our founder W.B. Yeats.

On this unique evening, we will celebrate Yeats’ legacy with readings and performances from a selection of his most compelling plays, poems and letters. Edited and compiled by Aideen Howard, former literary director of the Abbey Theatre, Down Off His Stilts provides an insight into Yeats’ life and work during the period which culminated in the foundation of the Abbey Theatre. Best known for his poetry, this event will showcase Yeats’ many other talents, as producer, director and artistic visionary.

Performed by actors Alison McKenna, Ciaran O’Reilly and Fiana Toibin, and directed by Jim Culleton, we’re thrilled to celebrate Yeats’ legacy with this special event, supported by the Consulate General of Ireland, New York.

The event is free and advance booking is strongly recommended. From 6pm, a selection of Yeats’ letters and manuscripts from the Morgan’s collection will be on view, and the performance begins at 7pm.
