Brian Friel Celebration - Play Readings
This September the Abbey Theatre celebrates the 80th birthday of one of Ireland’s greatest playwrights.
Brian Friel has a long standing relationship with the Abbey Theatre. His plays form an integral part of the Abbey repetoire and have delighted audiences for almost fifty years.
To celebrate this long-standing creative partnership the Abbey will present public readings of three of Friel’s favourite plays on the Peacock stage.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to gain insight into some of the works that this great playwright admires.

The Long Christmas Dinner by Thornton Wilder
The Bayard family sit down to dinner in their recently completed house, somewhere in the American mid-West. They are a family whose fortunes are steadily on the rise, yet Mother Bayard remembers a very different America, where Indians still walked the city streets. This short, innovative play spans three generations, following the Bayard family through its rise and slow disintegration.
