This September the Abbey Theatre celebrates the 80th birthday of one of Ireland’s greatest playwrights.
Brian Friel has a long standing relationship with the Abbey Theatre. His plays form an integral part of the Abbey repetoire and have delighted audiences for almost fifty years.

The Death and Resurrection of Mr. Roche by Thomas Kilroy
Seamus has not seen his friend Kelly for two years. They meet up for drinks and Seamus tries to reintegrate himself into Kelly’s lonely, hard-drinking lifestyle. Kelly is furious when the cultured Mr. Roche joins their party, disgusted by the fact that Mr. Roche is homosexual. Events take violent turn which leads to Kelly and Seamus having to examine their respective attitudes, and, ultimately, their way of life.
