‘You have no idea how frightfully interesting it is to take a human being and change her into a quite different human being…’

For the first time in its history, the Abbey Theatre is delighted to present George Bernard Shaw’s most popular play, Pygmalion. With all the parallels of a modern day X-Factor, an impoverished flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, is taken in hand by linguistics professor, Henry Higgins, and turned into a lady. For a bet. Will she pass for a lady? If so – what happens then?

Shaw’s play is a sharp satire about class, a spirited comment on women’s independence and a quick witted comedy.

With full period costumes, this production is sure to entertain you thoroughly and leave you with food for thought…

An Abbey Theatre premiere.

Please note: This production features a very brief instance of full frontal female nudity in the first half and contains some strobe lighting.

The whole show was fantastic, so I give it a 4/5, but the set was marvelous! The best I’ve seen. I’d give the scenic designer and carpenters and scenic artists and TD a 5/5. great job!

I’ve waited a long time for my first visit to The Abbey. I had a great experience as this glorious production lived up to and past expectations. I feel privileged to have seen such a wonderful a talented cast in action. I’ll certainly be back.
