A Birthday Celebration

This autumn joins us at the Abbey to celebrate the 80th birthday of one of Ireland’s greatest playwrights.

Hosted by Sinéad Cusack and directed by Patrick Mason with music performed by Conor Linehan. Some of the nation’s finest actors will pay tribute to Friel’s outstanding body of work. This will be a great night filled with music and song and interspersed with excerpts from Brian Friel’s unforgettable plays.

Brian Friel has a long standing relationship with the Abbey Theatre. His plays form an integral part of the Abbey repertoire and have delighted audiences for almost fifty years. To celebrate this long-standing creative partnership the Abbey will present public readings of Friel’s three favourite plays on the Peacock stage.
