After more than a 20 year absence, the musical is back with a bang at the Abbey Theatre as we present an audacious and modern take on a classic tale. Featuring explosive tunes, razor sharp wit, a message of hope and a whole lot of fun – this is Alice in Funderland.

Alice will not jump for love. But maybe she’ll fall…

A chance encounter sends Alice, our Corkonian heroine, tumbling through the Dublin streets, where unhinged TV stars sing, politicians grin and everything is loop-de-loop. In this epic pursuit for meaning on the strangest night of her life, will true love prevail before
Dolores, The Queen of Hartstown, declares ‘Off with her head’?

Originally commissioned and developed by THISISPOPBABY, Alice in Funderland brings together some of the most exciting Irish artists of this generation on the national stage as the Abbey Theatre presents the world premiere of this essential and inspirational new musical about the here and now.

Originally created by Phillip McMahon and Jennifer Jennings, and developed with Raymond Scannell, Wayne Jordan and the company.
The development was supported by The Arts Council, the Abbey Theatre, Dublin City Council and Project Arts Centre.

Brilliant! Thought it was so funny and I loved the portrayal of Tweedle Dum and Dee! My friends and I thought the score was excellent and the performances great! Plus a shout out to the Abbey Bar staff and the Alice themed cocktails they were lovely!

What a spectacular production on all parts! With a thrilling story and an excellent deliverance, you’re taken on an electrifying whirlwind that captivates you from the outset to the very end. Never a dull moment throughout! This performance highlights the sheer genius of Philip McMahon’s brilliant mind. Everything was carefully and intricately thought out. With the quirky humour, the vibrant set, the symphonic musical aspect and of course the acting, Thisispopbaby found a way to bridge the gap between classical and contemporary without losing the original story’s underlying message. I would definitely recommend it to all. A must see!

Utterly Brilliant! Fast paced, witty and vibrant! An interesting and unique new show that’s a must see for all (of 16 of course). The satirical humour and catchy songs bring a new meaning to the word ‘musical’. The actors commit 100% to their ridiculous roles and keep you enthralled through the play. Just see it!

Brilliant and imaginative interpretation of the classic tale, really strong cast who found an amazing balance between the moments of hilarious tongue and cheek wit and the thought provoking and moving scenes. Definitely not a run of the mill type of musical but neither does it come too close to pantomime, and will no doubt only get better with every performance!

A truly magnificent show.I take my hat off to Philip McMahon for taking us down the rabbit hole to a magical realm of excitement and witty antics. The script was brilliantly written with a classical base of carrolls original piece with a modern twist. An ingenious set design which braught glamour and aww to this whimsical retro fairytale and a superb use of a metal grate style backdrop which I found to be revolutionary brought the play to a whole new level.Music and lyrics were toe tappingly amazing and succeeded in bringing the audience into the fun of the whole experience. The costumes were distinctive and fresh. The choreography was electric and really lifted the actors musical performance. What can I say about the cast other than they were just astounding and the delivery of their individual roles was unforgetable.I definately recommend you see this show. This is the must see show of the year!.

I’m not a Dubliner, nor even Irish. I’m 60 years old; surely not your intended demographic. I don’t even particularly like musicals. And yet I was one of the first audience members on their feet to give this talented energetic company the standing ovation they so richly deserved. The songs which have stayed with me are the ‘On the Edge’ duet, the government one (which, unlike the newspaper reviewer, I thought fitted in perfectly) and the moving and haunting ensemble finale.
If I lived in Dublin I would firstly try to buy another ticket, as such a rich show certainly merits a second view. You would also find me picketing the Abbey theatre until they agreed to make the soundtrack available to buy (and I can see from other comments that “I’m not the only one")

Absolutley fantastic show, full of vibrant colours and really grabbs your attention from start to finish. Songs were superb - would love to get the album!
This show is not your typical cheesy musical , the acting was great , along with the gripping story line - there really wasn’t a dull moment.
I’d denfenitly take my friends to see it , wouldn’t take a kid to see it though!
Loved it :)
