Outsiders

Showing on the Peacock Stage

World Premiere

While others cheered the boom, only one economist accurately predicted the collapse and mess we find ourselves in. He told you the truth then; he’s telling you the truth now.

Leading economist and commentator David McWilliams takes to the stage in Outsiders. In an event – which is part stand up, part discussion, part social observation – David explains how we got here and why we shouldn’t despair because there is a way out.

Join the man who believes Ireland’s political and social divide is not so much about rich and poor, young and old, urban and rural, but about insiders and outsiders. The insiders – those with a stake in our country who believe that today’s status quo must be preserved at all costs; the outsiders – those who realise that the status quo is part of the problem.

In Ireland every time there is a crisis, the insiders get stronger, not weaker. In contrast, the outsiders are excluded and left to fend for themselves. This is what happened in the 1950s and the 1980s and it is happening again now. But there is an alternative.

Outsiders is about that alternative.

Brilliant show! Entertaining, enlightening and prophetic. It has moved me to consider deeply the current state of play in our country. Instead of taking to the streets to protest, we go to the theatre and laugh at our demise.  The laissez- faire policy by the government in the height of the famine, with its hands-off approach towards the citizens, in the belief that all problems would eventually be solved on their own through ‘natural means,’ has been replaced with its polar opposite. It would appear that the vast majority of people believe that if we ignore the bankers, NAMA and the politicians and leave them to their own devices all will be well-eventually. How else can one explain the fact that what David Mc Williams is proclaiming is once again falling on deaf ears?

A polemical performance that mixes biography, economics, politics, and the incestuous consequences of power to unravel how the Irish economy collapsed. McWilliams delivers an excellent and entertaining analysis. However, from a theatrical viewpoint, the staging could benefit from the addition of music and video snippets, which would punctuate the work’s structure and give the performer and the audience a breather.

Amusing, thought-provoking, empowering, iconoclastic, human, astounding - all at the same time. Do your country a favour: go see it, let’s get talking about it and make some decisions that will influence our nation’s future. We all have a responsibility.

David Mc Williams has an uncanny knack of simplifying the complex and empowering his listeners by helping them to understand issues which are of fundamental importance to us all and which others try to obfuscate at times.

This is a show for “Everyman”. Top tip? Get tickets quick.

David’s performance in Outsiders is nothing short of stunning. You will leave The Peacock richer for the experience.

Congratulations to David, The Peacock and the team behind this event.

Shall be visiting Ireland & Dublin as a must so to see this talent and performance from David!
Ireland requires youth & common sense ,in the current decision making & not more old corrupt members who are full of sleaze & constant greed from the last 5/10/ 20 years !

Dublin can once again be respected & a true & sincere tiger, if first those from the recent past are put asside in the decision making process !
as too many errors & self interest making decisions have been taken !

OUTSIDERS A MUST TO SEE

and the Abbey is great!
