I recently traveled to Ireland with a group of students. We were able to watch the play Translations. I am a teacher and hold a degree in English as a Second Language. I can empathize with the loss of language that Ireland has had to endure. I can’t tell you all how special it was to be able to see this performance while in Ireland! The actors were amazing and it thoroughly helped me to understand what the Gaelic language means to the Irish person. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I went to see Translations last nite. Excellent- brilliant to see an aspect of our history covered in such a subtle, nuanced way. The strivings and pleasures of the human heart do not depend on nationality and yet are given a place and a context by our place of birth, our language and our traditions. That sense of place, of home is beautifully dealt with by Brian Friel. A real pleasure! Not to be missed!
