Tom Pye

Tom’s work at the Abbey Theatre includes Medea, also at the West End, Broadway, Paris and US tour and Happy Days (National Theatre, London and worldwide tour). He has designed sets and costumes throughout the world in theatre, opera, television and film for directors as diverse as Simon McBurney, Deborah Warner, Nick Hytner, James Macdonald, David Leveaux, Adrian Nobel, Fiona Shaw, Peter Brook and Chen Shi Zheng. His recent credits include Messiah (English National Opera), Mother Courage, Major Barbara (National Theatre, London), Death in Venice (ENO and European tour), Elegy for Young Lovers, Riders to the Sea, Orfeo (ENO), All My Sons, Cyrano de Bergerac (Broadway), Top Girls, Henry Hewes Design Award nomination (MTC, Broadway), Cosi fan Tutte, Les Noces de Figaro, Don Giovanni (Lyon), Sinatra (West End), Measure for Measure (Complicité, National Theatre, London and world tour), Fiddler on the Roof, Tony nomination, The Glass Menagerie (Broadway), Juliet and Her Romeo (Bristol Old Vic), Fewer Emergencies (Royal Court) and costumes for two of the 8 Little Greats season (Opera North). Other past shows include Julius Caesar (Barbican, Paris, Madrid), The Rape of Lucretia (Munich), The Powerbook (National Theatre, London, Paris, Rome), The Diary of One Who Vanished (ENO/National Theatre, London), The Turn of the Screw (Royal Opera House), St John Passion (ENO), La voix humaine (Opera North) and The Angel and Tower Projects (installations staged in New York, London and Perth). Design for film includes A Feast at Midnight, Christie Malry’s Own Double Entry and art direction for Richard II (film for television). Television credits include the Emmy Award-winning Gloriana, Twelfth Night (Channel 4), Just William, The Helen West Casebook series and The Late Michael Clark (BBC). Current projects include Shoes, a musical for Saddler’s Wells, Eugene Onegin (ENO and The MET), Death in Venice (La Scala) and Misfortune a new opera by Judith Weir (Bregenz Festival and the Royal Opera House).
