Stephen Brennan
Stephen’s most recent work at the Abbey Theatre include The Cavalcaders, The Grown Ups, The Burial at Thebes, That Was Then, The Sanctuary Lamp, A Life, Da and The Wake. He spent several years in musicals before becoming a member of the Abbey Company in 1976 for eight years, where he played more than sixty leading and supporting roles, including the title role in the Abbey’s first Hamlet. Recent work at the Gate Theatre includes Jane Eyre, Present Laughter (also Spoleto Festival, Charleston, US), A Christmas Carol, The Real Thing, Waiting for Godot (national and worldwide tour), Private Lives, Old Times, The Pinter Landscape (also Lincoln Center, New York) Pygmalion, Pride and Prejudice, Art, Tartuffe and Cyrano de Bergerac. Other theatre credits include Blackbird (Landmark Productions), Phaedra, The Life of Galileo (Rough Magic), Hamlet (Second Age) and The Shaughraun (Albery Theatre, London). Frank n’ Furter in The Rocky Horror Show, Petruchio in The Taming of the Shrew and Oedipus at the Gaiety are among his favourite roles. Film and television credits include The Tudors, The Clinic, The General, The Boys from Clare, A Piece of Monologue, Waiting for Godot (Beckett on Film), Twice Shy, El Cid, Ballykissangel, Father Ted, Bachelor’s Walk and Eat the Peach.
