Risteárd Cooper
Risteárd’s previous work at the Abbey includes Pygmalion, Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme, Doldrum Bay, Moses Rock and The Bird Sanctuary. Other theatre work includes Auntie and Me (Gaiety Theatre), I Keano (Olympia Theatre) and at the Gate Theatre: An Ideal Husband, See You Next Tuesday, Eccentricites of a Nightingale, Blithe Spirit, Betrayal (Pinter Festival), The Deep Blue Sea and The Yalta Game (Sydney Festival and Edinburgh Festival 2009). Risteárd is one third of comedy team Aprés Match, which first appeared on RTÉ in 1998 and has since performed sell-out shows in Vicar Street, the Gaiety Theatre and at venues throughout Ireland. Film and television credits include The State of Us (which he co-wrote with Gerard Stembridge), Batman Begins,The Closer You Get, This is Ireland (BBC), Chasing the Lions, Bittersweet and most recently the Irish language sit-com An Crisis for which he received a Best Actor nomination at the 2010 Monte Carlo Television Awards. He has also worked at the Ensemble Studio Theatre and the Irish Rep in New York and at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company, where he played Mickey in the American premiere of Jez Butterworth’s award winning play, Mojo.
