Mick Hughes

Mick’s work at the Abbey Theatre includes Cavalcaders, A Month in the Country, Love in the Title, Give Me Your Answer, Do!, The Only True History of Lizzie Finn, Translations and Wonderful Tennessee. He began his career in 1961 as electrician for the Margate Stage Company. He directed over forty plays for Worcester Rep from1967-1972 and designed the lighting for all the Chichester Festival plays from 1966 to 1969. From 1978 to 1982 he was lighting consultant for the Hong Kong Arts Festival. Lighting credits include The Homecoming, Uncle Vanya, All My Sons, Arcadia, Dublin Carol, Death of a Salesman, Three Plays, See You Next Tuesday, The Threepenny Opera, Celebration, A Month in the Country, Beckett Season, Pinter Festival (Gate Theatre), Molly Sweeney (Gate Theatre and New York), Juno and the Paycock (Gaiety Theatre), Mrs Warren’s Profession, A View from the Bridge, House and Garden, No Man’s Land, On the Shore of the Wide World, Fuente Ovejuna, The March On Russia, Angels in America, Sweeney Todd (National Theatre, London), The Night Heron, Ashes to Ashes (Royal Court), Helpless, Hotel in Amsterdam (Donmar), Cavalcaders, Dwarfs (Tricycle), Steaming, The Best of Friends, Sweet Bird of Youth, Peggy for You, Port Authority, Afterplay, The Homecoming, The Old Masters, Never The Sinner, The Caretaker, Hay Fever, Time of My Life, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Cellmates, Communicating Doors, Taking Sides (West End) and By Jeeves! (Broadway). He has also lit shows at the Wexford Festival, the Almeida, the RSC and the Coliseum, London.
