John Kavanagh

John was a member of the Abbey Theatre from 1967 to 1977. He has played in many Abbey productions since including Macbeth, The Comedy of Errors, Fool for Love, The Cavalcaders, Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme, Da, The Plough and the Stars and A Life. Other recent theatre work includes Uncle Vanya, A View from the Bridge, Juno and the Paycock, The Homecoming, A Streetcar Named Desire, See You Next Tuesday, The Deep Blue Sea (Gate Theatre) and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (Gaiety Theatre). Musicals include Les Misérables, Cabaret, Guys and Dolls, Jacques Brel, The Pirates of Penzance, HMS Pinafore and Tom Foolery. Television credits include Sharpe’s Gold, The Ballroom of Romance, Bad Company, Lovejoy, Maigret, Anytime Now, Children of the North, Sweeney Todd, Dr Finlay’s Casebook, The Country Girls, The Shadow of a Gunman, Caught in a Free State, Echoes and The Tudors. Films include The Black Dahlia, Alexander, Closing the Ring, Puckoon, Braveheart, The Tiger’s Tail, A Love Divided, Circle of Friends, Into the West, Cal, The Butcher Boy, Dancing at Lughnasa, George Gently and Father and Son.
