Ferdia Murphy

Ferdia’s work at the Abbey Theatre includes Lay Me Down Softly,The School for Scandal and True West (both of which won him a nomination for Best Set Designer at the Irish Times Theatre Awards 2006), The Burial at Thebes, The Recruiting Officer, Henry IV Part I, Ensuite and A Quiet Life. He was nominated for Best Design at the Theatre Management Association (UK) Awards 2007 for Dancing at Lughnasa at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast. He was recently made an Honorary Scenographer by OISTAT (International Organisation of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians) at PQ07 in Prague. Last year Ferdia made his production design debut on the feature film Porcelain. Other work includes Don Gregorio (Wexford Festival Opera), Knots (CoisCéim), Amadeus, Making History (Ouroboros), Shooting Gallery, Blasted (Bedrock), Dinner with Friends (Gúna Nua), Macbeth, Tales from Ovid, Richard III, Mutabilitie (Theatreworks), Blown (Theatre Royal, Plymouth), True West, The Blind Fiddler (Lyric Theatre, Belfast), Passades (Operating Theatre), The Chance, Dealer’s Choice (Prime Cut), The Consul, Inside Out (Cochrane, London), Sweeney Todd (Bridewell, London), In the Dark Air of a Closed Room (Loose Canon), Playing from the Heart, Rudolf the Red (The Ark), Devotion, Bumbugs and Bees (TEAM), Top Girls, Dolly West’s Kitchen, Interludes, The Triumph of Love, The Dispute, Camino Royale (Samuel Beckett Centre) and Alternative Miss Ireland VI-IX (Olympia). He trained at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design, London.
