Donal O’Kelly

Donal’s previous performances at the Abbey Theatre include Beauty in a Broken Place, The Tempest and Juno and the Paycock. He performed his solo plays including the award-winning Catalpa, Jimmy Joyced! and Bat the Father Rabbit the Son all over Ireland and worldwide. He also toured extensively with his plays The Cambria, most recently in New York, Vive La and his music theatre piece, Running Beast with music by Michael Holohan. On film he has played leading roles in Kings, Spin the Bottle and The Van. Television appearances include Fair City and Paths to Freedom. He runs Benbo Productions (formerly Donal O’Kelly Productions) with Sorcha Fox. He was elected to Aosdána in 2007. Donal lives in County Leitrim and has a close working relationships with Glens Centre. He is a writer and director and trained with the late Deirdre O’Connell at the Focus Theatre.
