Denis Conway
Denis’s work at the Abbey Theatre includes Christ Deliver Us!, The Recruiting Officer, Homeland, A Cry From Heaven, The Dandy Dolls, Purgatory, Chun na Farraige Síos, The Wild Duck, The Freedom of the City (Lincoln Center, New York), The Colleen Bawn (National Theatre, London), April Bright, The Crucible and The Comedy of Errors. He is Artistic Director of Ouroboros Theatre Company where he has played Müller in The Death of Harry Leon, Salieri in Amadeus, the title role in Macbeth, Hugh O’Neill in an international tour of Brian Friel’s Making History commemorating the Flight of the Earls and Richard in Richard III for which he received an Irish Times/ESB Theatre award for Best Actor, Myrmidons, Tales from Ovid, Mutabilitie and Troilus and Cressida. Work with Druid includes The Irishman in The Gigli Concert, for which he received an Irish Times Theatre Award for Best Actor Award (national tour), Dinny in The Walworth Farce (national tour, Edinburgh Festival, National Theatre, London and New York) and Old Mahon in The Playboy of the Western World (Perth Festival, Australia). Other theatre work includes The Seagull in a version by Thomas Kilroy, Finbar in The Weir (Gate Theatre) and General Butler in Schiller’s Wallenstein in a version by Mike Poulton (Chichester Festival). Television includes The Running Mate (TG4), Single Handed, Showbands, The Clinic, Bachelor’s Walk, On Home Ground, Fair City (RTÉ), Rebel Heart, Casualty, Custer’s Last Stand Up (BBC), Yesterday’s Children (CBS) and Tri Scéal, Boghaisíní. Films include Garage, The Tiger’s Tail, The Wind that Shakes the Barley, Boy Eats Girl, Alexander, Intermission, The Countess Cathleen, I Went Down, Michael Collins and Making Ends Meet.
