Brendan Conroy

Brendan’s work at the Abbey Theatre includes Tadhg in The Field (Russian tour 1988), Jimmy Jack in Translations (US and European tour), Philly Cullen in The Playboy of the Western World (US and national tour), Mullins in Tom Murphy’s A Crucial Week in the Life of a Grocer’s Assistant, The Hostage, At-Swim-Two Birds, A Little Like Paradise and Cúirt an Mheán Oíche (Gaeltacht tour). Work with Druid includes Mickeleen in Tom Murphy’s Famine, Penfield in Dracula and Preacher in The Beggar’s Opera. With Red Kettle he played Horst in Bent, Manus in Translations, Griffin in Moonshine by Jim Nolan, Dr Prentice in What the Butler Saw, Matt Talbot in Talbot’s Box and he also directed The Price and The Guernica Hotel. Other favourite roles include George in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? on stage and for RTÉ radio, Joxer in Juno and the Paycock (Newcastle 1994), Martin Doul in The Well of the Saints (Big Telly national tour) and most recently Dr Thomas Stockman in Namhaid don Phobal (Enemy of the People) for Taibhdhearc na Gaillimhe/Moonfish. Brendan won an IFTA for his portrayal of Git in Kings. Other film and television credits include Sunshower, If I Should Fall Behind, Situations Vacant, Tufty, Last Mango in Dublin, A Love Divided, The General, This is My Father, Butcher Boy, Moll Flanders, An Awfully Big Adventure, Circle of Friends, Words Upon the Window Pane, Secret of Roan Inish, A Man of No Importance, Revolution, The Bounty, Rock Rivals, Prosperity, Ros na Rún, Ballykissangel, Sailortown, The Lilac Bus, The Irish RM, Bracken and Ballroom of Romance.
