The cast, creative team and Abbey staff got together on Monday 22 for the first reading of No Escape. The superb cast includes Jane Brennan, Lorcan Cranitch, Michele Forbes, Eamonn Hunt, Eleanor Methven, Donal O’Kelly and Jonathan White.

No Escape, compiled and edited by Mary Raftery, is piece of documentary theatre based on the Ryan Report. It is directed by Róisín McBrinn, designed by Alyson Cummins with lighting by Paul Keogan, costume design by Donna Geraghty and sound design/original music is by Vincent Doherty and Ivan Birthistle.

No Escape runs from 13 April – 24 April on the Peacock stage. This is the first time such a piece of documentary theatre has been commissioned in Ireland.

No Escape is part of our series entitled The Darkest Corner and it is followed with a reading of Richard Johnson’s play The Evidence I Shall Give on 26 April. This controversial play, specifically mentioned in the Ryan Report, premiered at the Abbey in 1961. The Darkest Corner series is concluded with Gerard Mannix Flynn’s compelling work, James X, a Farcry Productions presentation, which runs from Thursday 29 April until Saturday 1 May 2010.
