More award nominations for The Seafarer writer
A new work by Conor McPherson, writer of The Seafarer, dominated the film categories in the nominations for next month’s Irish Film and Television Academy (IFTA) Awards.
The awards, which were announced last week, saw McPherson’s spooky drama The Eclipse one of those to top the standings with a total of eight award nominations! Among them, Conor has been nominated for the Best Director award, as well as receiving a joint nomination for Best Writer, in collaboration with much-loved playwright Billy Roche. The film, which stars Ciarán Hinds, will be released for distribution over the coming months.
IFTA chief executive Áine Moriarty said that ‘The nominees’ showcase of work reinforces the fact that Ireland has a superb resource of creative talent, despite the difficult Irish economic year.’
Meanwhile, McPherson’s acclaimed production of The Seafarer continues to entertain on the Abbey stage. Why not read what the critics and audiences have to say about the show?
We wish Conor good luck at the 2010 IFTA awards ceremony, which will take place on Saturday, February 20th.
