Little Gem opened Wednesday, 20 January

Following a hugely successful run in New York, Elaine Murphy’s muti-awardwinning play Little Gem opened on 20 January to rapturous applause and great reaction.

Little Gem completely lives up to its name. It’s Elaine’s first full-length play and since its first appearance at the Project Arts Centre, this Gúna Nua/Civic Theatre production has swept the boards.

It was the surprise hit of the Edinburgh Festival, and the first Irish production ever to receive the prestigious Carol Tambor Award. This opened up the doors for Little Gem to perform at New York’s Flea Theater, where it has been met with tremendous reviews.

Hilda Fay, Sarah Greene and Anita Reeves, who play women from three generations of one family, have been showered with praise and have won over audiences completely. In The New York Times Charles Isherwood wrote that the play is ‘Intimately told and beautifully acted… The writing is vivid, natural and particular throughout, and all three actors, under the direction of Paul Meade, place a strong individual stamp on Ms. Murphy’s lively personalities’. You can read the full review online.

We are delighted to welcome Little Gem back to Dublin and to the Peacock Stage, where it will run until 27 February.
