Little Gem by Elaine Murphy Opens in New York
The multi-award winning Little Gem opened in New York’s Flea Theater on 5 January to rave reviews!
Little Gem by Elaine Murphy completely lives up to its name! It’s Elaine’s first full-length play and since its first appearance at the Project Arts Centre, has swept the boards. It was the surprise hit of the Edinburgh Festival, receiving the prestigious Carol Tambor Award and is the first Irish production ever to receive this award. This opened up the doors for Little Gem to perform at New York’s Flea Theater, where it has been met with tremendous reviews.
Hilda Fay, Sarah Greene and Anita Reeves, who play the women from three generations of the one family, have been showered with praise and top reviews and have won over audiences completely. In The New York Times Charles Isherwood wrote that the play is ‘Intimately told and beautifully acted… The writing is vivid, natural and particular throughout, and all three actors, under the direction of Paul Meade, place a strong individual stamp on Ms. Murphy’s lively personalities’. You can now read the full review online.
We are looking forward to welcoming the Gúna Nua/Civic Theatre production of Little Gem to the Peacock Stage where it will run from 19 January – 27 February.
