Yeats Camp

11 Apr 2010 0 Comments

We’ve embarked upon a project to undertake theatrical research into the plays of William Butler Yeats.

The project began with a week of work in March entitled Yeats Camp. Our hope was to bring together a range of theatre artists to discover whether some of these plays might speak to us in the contemporary moment. Equally, we wanted to make connections between Yeats and the distinct practice of diverse theatre artists.

We were really pleased by the success of the week. The quality of debate encouraged us to move to a further stage of studio development in the autumn. Most importantly, Yeats Camp gave us an opportunity to work with independent theatre makers in a more sophisticated way; allowing us to think about how individual artists can work with the Abbey Theatre on this and other projects.

The Yeats Camp participants were:
Jane Brennan, Feidlim Cannon, Selina Cartmell, Annabelle Comyn, Tom Creed, Nancy Harris, Wayne Jordan, Gary Keegan, Paul Keogan, Sophie Motley, Caoimhin O’Raghallaigh, Gavin Quinn, Karl Quinn, Natalie Radmall-Quirke, Annie Ryan, Sinead Wallace.

The guest speakers were:
Noreen Doody, James Flannery, Declan Kiberd, Brian Singleton.
