Deadly by Paddy Cunneen

We have invited writer and director Paddy Cunneen to adapt his multi-award winning play for a Dublin audience.

Originally inspired by knife crime in Glasgow, the play will be rewritten for Dublin and titled, Deadly.

When his friend is stabbed a teenager reacts violently. He is drawn into the clutches of a gang and exacts a terrible revenge.

Inspired by Homer’s Iliad, Deadly is a powerful and contemporary version of a Greek tragedy.

Using the poetic rhythm of classical verse, Deadly asks the audience to face tough questions and to consider their own reactions in the face of a culture of violence.

The play contains strong language and challenging content. It is particularly relevant to transition year students and school’s performances will be followed by a discussion with the director and cast. There will be free resource materials available as part of your visit.

We are working closely with An Garda Siochana’s Youth Diversion Services to bring this perceptive and insightful drama to those most directly affected.
