Day 1 Review of The Theatre of War Symposium

Day 1 Review of The Theatre of War Symposium

Day 1 of The Theatre of War Symposium began with a welcome from Fiach Mac Conghail followed by a talk from Professor Luke Gibbons on ‘Recasting the Rising: 1916 on the World Stage,’ which Fiach moderated.

This was followed by the first of 4 panel discussions that took place during the Symposium – director Conall Morrison, writer and director Ruwanthie de Chickera and writer and director Susannah Tresilian spoke about the artistic response to conflict and war (moderated by Ruth McGowan, literary assistant of the Abbey Theatre).

During the afternoon we heard Prof. David Cotterrell talk about his experience in the Helmand province (moderated by Sarah Glennie, director of IMMA), followed by award-winning journalist Patrick Cockburn discussing ISIS (moderated by broadcaster Olivia O’Leary).
