The Abbey is pleased to present two great productions as part of the Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival, the Druid production of The New Electric Ballroom and the world premiere of Sebastian Barry’s Tales of Ballycumber and a work in progress reading, Shibboleth, by Stacey Gregg.

Also, as a part of this year’s Ulster Bank Theatre Festival, the Abbey will be supporting the work of Broken Talkers and their production of Silver Stars. The Abbey is delighted to continue to support some of the most exciting independent theatre artists in Ireland.

The New Electric Ballroom
On the Peacock stage the Abbey Theatre presents the Druid production of The New Electric Ballroom, written and directed by Enda Walsh. Funny, tender-hearted and at times pitch dark, this winning combination of great writing and powerful acting is simply too good to miss.

Tales of Ballycumber
On the Abbey stage we’re delighted to present the world premiere of Sebastian Barry’s Tales of Ballycumber, a startling and intimate portrayal of two unlikely companions connected more closely than they realise.

Shibboleth by Stacey Gregg form part of the After the Fall project which commemorates the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall. This work has been co-commissioned by the Abbey Theatre and the Goethe Institut Dublin.

Silver Stars
Featuring a community chorus of older and not-so-old gay men, Sliver Stars is a moving and eloquent song-cycle which tells the truly remarkable real-life stories of ordinary men in search of happiness and fulfilment, in a country that was challenged by their very existence.

Staged by the undisputed rising-stars of Irish theatre, Brokentalkers – nominated for a 2008 Irish Times Theatre Award for their innovative work – this extraordinary show was first performed for four sold-out nights only as part of the 2008 Bealtaine Festival.

Silver Stars will be at the Project Arts Centre 28 September – 4 October
