Radio drama by Thomas Kilroy on RTÉ 1
Thomas Kilroy’s radio drama, In The Garden of The Asylum, will be broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1’s Sunday Playhouse next month.
The play was commissioned by RTÉ radio drama to celebrate Thomas’ 75th birthday in September of last year. First aired in December 2009, we are delighted that In The Garden of The Asylum will be broadcast a second time on Sunday, 7 February at 8pm. This broadcast coincides with the world premiere of his new stage play, Christ Deliver Us! (After Wedekind) which previews on the Abbey stage from Tuesday, 9 February.
In The Garden of The Asylum tells the story of Lucia Joyce, daughter of James Joyce and Raymond Douglas, son of Bosie (Lord Alfred Douglas). Both spent time at the Psychiatric institution in North Hampton, England. Thomas Kilroy fashioned this drama from a fictionalised meeting in the garden of the asylum.
In The Garden of The Asylum stars Brid Brennan, Ingrid Craigie, Malcolm Douglas, Bosco Hogan, Rory Keenan, Owen Roe, Gerry McCann, Kevin McHugh, Lise-Ann McLaughlin, Enda Oates and Kate Thompson.
