mal⋅a⋅prop⋅ism

[mal-uh-prop-iz-uhm]

–noun

1. The usually unintentionally humorous misuse or distortion of a word or phrase; especially : the use of a word sounding somewhat like the one intended but ludicrously wrong in the context

The terms malapropism and the earlier variant malaprop come from Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s 1775 play The Rivals, and in particular the character Mrs. Malaprop.

Saw “The Rivals” last Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Went to the matinee as not being from Dublin we were able to travel back to Athlone that night so please keep that in mind for all productions!
I loved everything especially the production and set , the melange of modern and period was very cleverly achieved -most original!
Looking forward to your next production when home for Xmas!

Six of us enjoyed the Rivals during our Dublin trip Four of us are actors from New York. The only problem was coming late as I did not check the tix and thought it was an 8 pm curtain. Regardless, we were thrilled to see a show at the Abbey. We have seen many that have come to the US. It was easy to book from the website.
Thanks
Sondra
