Irish artists take New York by storm

10 Jan 2010

The Abbey joins leading Irish performers and promoters in New York this January to present and promote some of our best work to an international audience.

Over 90 Irish artists touched down in the US this week to take part in a series of showcases, supported by Culture Ireland, at venues across New York. They include, of course, our own production of Sam Shepherd’s Ages of the Moon, which receives its US premiere at the Atlantic Theater. The play previews from 12 January, opens on 27 January and runs until 7 March.

Elaine Murphy’s tender hearted play Little Gem has already opened at the Flea Theater to tremendous critical acclaim. The New York Times wrote that the play is ‘Intimately told and beautifully acted… The writing is vivid, natural and particular throughout’, and Backstage called it ‘sweetly life-affirming, with shining performances.’ We are already looking forward to its return to Dublin and its run on the Peacock stage from 19 January. If you want to catch it, book now – tickets are selling fast!
