Abbey Theatre, Director, Fiach Mac Conghail appointed to Seanad
On Friday 20 May the Abbey Theatre, Director, Fiach Mac Conghail was nominated to the 24th Seanad as one of An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny’s nominees.
Following his nomination Fiach Mac Conghail said:
‘I am extremely honoured to have been nominated as one of An Taoiseach’s nominees to the Seanad today. I am proud for my family and the Abbey Theatre, Ireland’s national theatre of which I am Director.
I regard myself as an independent voice. In my new role as Senator, I will be a voice for the arts community in Ireland and for the role of the citizen in public decision making. These are causes I have strongly supported in recent years through my involvement in the National Campaign for the Arts and as Chair of We the Citizens.
I will continue my work as Director of the Abbey Theatre and as Chair of We the Citizens, with as much commitment as ever.
I would like to thank my family and the staff and board of the Abbey Theatre for their support’.
