The Abbey Theatre Summer Relocation

The Abbey Theatre Summer Relocation

Wednesday 9 May 2012

The Abbey Theatre will close its auditorium temporarily for a nine week period from 17 July to 15 September, relocating performances of The Plough and the Stars by Sean O’Casey to the nearby OReilly Theatre, Belvedere, Great Denmark Street, Dublin 1.

After the production of The House the Abbey Theatre will temporarily relocate to allow work to be carried out to remove asbestos from the Abbey auditorium.

During this time the Abbey Theatre will remain open for Box Office sales and Tours.

We have opted to fully remove the asbestos for the long-term safety of our staff because theatre involves a lot of technical work and staff may be required to work in the areas where asbestos was identified.

The steps taken are in accordance with advice provided by specialist consultants and in line with international best practice. The HSA was involved and kept fully aware of the approach taken by the Abbey Theatre at all times.

From 26 July to 15 September, The Plough and the Stars will be staged at the OReilly Theatre, Belvedere on Great Denmark Street, Dublin 1 before embarking on a national and UK tour.

Funding for these works was provided from the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.

Patrons can visit our website for more information or call a member of our Box Office staff on 01 – 87 87 222.
